Black Currents
A downloadable ttrpg
A short tabletop roleplaying game
about Beasts and people,
unlikely alliances,
and lost souls.
Noise. Headache. Grinding, pounding. Metal on metal. Sparks fly in the dark. The sirens call out. Another Beast. The raft is ready just in time. Grab your things and go.
Nothing is more terrifying than the black river-streams that connect reality, but you know that people are helpless when divided. So you ride metal rafts on the back of titanic Beasts, connecting city-world to city-world, trading salvage and bringing news of sons to mothers.
Most of you are sailors. You have a raft, a mission, and each other.
One of you is the Beast. They have a body, a destination, and little patience.

Black Currents was illustrated and laid out by Guillaume Jentey.
It can also be found in French, translated by Guillaume and Sabine Jentey: https://guillaumejentey.itch.io/sombres-courants

Just acquired the French version, and I love Guillaume Jentey’s illustrations, that stark contrast of white against black. There’s something so powerful, primal, intense, dangerous, and dreamlike about them. From the first glance, the mood they evoke feels perfectly in tune with the game’s vision.
@Sotiris, I can’t wait to dive into your game, to feel the Beast’s breath, the radeau trembling beneath the black waves, and to see where this journey takes me.
Thank you to @Sotiris, @Guillaume, and @Sabine! =)
Guillaume's art is beautiful, I'm beyond excited he picked this project up!
If you run Black Currents I'd love to know how it went for you. Thanks for checking the game out!
I really love this game: a group of sailors on a journey on a strange beast... It could be mythologic, surrealist or sci-fi... epic or very simple.
The rules are simple in a very good way.
It's really a game I want to play, I want to talk about... and I want to translate in french !
I just noticed you left this comment, Guillaume. Thanks for the lovely words, I can't wait to see Black Currents in French!
To everyone reading this, go check out Guillaume's wildly imaginative games as well✨
